Lolita the Blue and Gold Macaw

Lolita's Personality
Macaws are wonderful companion birds. They are intelligent and affectionate. These birds are ideally suited to families with a range of members. They can get bored easily and find different ways to entertain themselves if their owners aren't interacting with them enough. If they are not socialized properly, macaws can become aggressive and can even bite. It is crucial that boundaries are clearly defined so that the macaw does not feel threatened.
In general, Blue and Gold Macaws are active birds that love to play, climb and interact. They require 2 to 3 hours each day outside their cages for physical exercise and mental stimulation. They enjoy playing games as well as listening to music and learning new tricks. They also enjoy playing in parks and playgrounds, hiking and visiting local bars and restaurants. They are not only a great pet but also a wonderful companion for children.
Despite their adorable nature, these birds are very loud and can be a nuisance to those who live close by. They are capable of ear-shattering calls and screech-calls, which could be a problem in apartments and condos or near children who might be startled by their noise.
This species is also monomorphic. Females and males are difficult to differentiate. Due to this, the only way to reliably determine sex is through DNA testing. Once sex is known pairing the birds can be attempted and breeding can begin.
Like all pets, Blue and Gold Macaws require training to learn commands, phrases, and tricks. This can be a long process, and the pet's owner has to be patient and understand that this is a challenging task. Positive reinforcement can help accelerate the process and can help to correct any behavioral issues.
Lolita's Care
For years, activists have been pleading for Lolita's retirement from performing tricks at Miami Seaquarium and relocation to an open sea pen. After the 1993 movie Free Willy sparked public outrage over the returning of orca Keiko into the wild, conservationists hoped that Lolita would suffer a similar fate. However, she was never given the chance to go back to the sea.
Lolita's captors, known as the Dolphin Company, have ignored veterinary recommendations and continued to put her at risk. They harm her health by forcing her to perform for tourists. They overexert her with high-speed circle and head-first dives, exposing her to chlorine and cause her to lose weight. They also put her in a tank one-and-a-half times smaller than her natural habitat.
In 2022, the new owner of Miami Seaquarium, who calls Lolita as a cousin of theirs, promised to develop plans with a group of Lolita supporters called Friends of Toki, and the Lummi Tribe, to transport her to eventually open water. The plan included a facility in Washington's westcoast, where she could spend the rest of her days, receive human care, and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen was expected to be hundreds of time larger than her Miami house and was surrounded by ocean, but not concrete tanks.
If the plan had gone through, Lolita (also known as Tokitae or Toki) might still be alive today. In the wild, killer whales are social animals that bond with their families until they die. Lolita has lived isolated at Seaquarium for over 40 years. People from all over the country have called for Lolita's release from Seaquarium and her eventual release into the wild. The activists include Ric O'Barry, a former Flipper trainer, Empty The Tanks, and Orca Network.

The first stage of the training is System I. System II builds upon the skills taught in System 1 through exercises using equipment. It introduces teachers to exercises with the Spine Corrector and Magic Circle. This module comes with a manual and a DVD that features Lolita teaching you the system.
After completing Lolita's Teacher Training Program, you will be prepared to teach The Pilates Method anywhere on the globe! This course will help you to work effectively, safely and professionally with clients. You will gain a deep knowledge of all exercise movements and how they function. You can apply this understanding to any body and to make your clients feel safe, strong and secure. Lolita's Diet

Lolita's Health

After years of public pressure from PETA and others and the Miami Seaquarium has finally released Lolita to a sanctuary on the ocean and she will be able to take a deep dive in the ocean and possibly even be reunited with her orca mother. Sadly, these plans came too late for the whale that was so beloved, who died on Friday of what was believed to be a kidney issue.
